UNIPA News(Istanbul) 21 June-Foreign ministers from Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia on Sunday welcomed a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran, describing it as a significant step toward reducing regional tensions and enhancing stability across the Middle East.
The ministers made the remarks during the fourth consultative meeting of the four-country grouping, known as the R4, held in Cairo at Egypt’s invitation, according to a joint statement issued after the meeting.
The ministers said the Islamabad MoU, signed on June 18, represented a constructive effort to de-escalate a conflict that had posed risks to regional security, energy markets, international maritime routes, global supply chains, and global trade.
They commended regional and international diplomatic efforts that facilitated the agreement and underscored the importance of fully implementing the commitments outlined in the memorandum.
The joint statement highlighted Pakistan’s role in advancing the negotiations, which the ministers described as a historic development. They also acknowledged Qatar’s support in helping conclude the discussions and welcomed Pakistan’s continued coordination with the R4 framework throughout the process.
The ministers called for the next phase of negotiations to move forward swiftly to achieve what they termed a “lasting, verifiable, and mutually acceptable solution” to outstanding issues.
They stressed that future negotiations should address the concerns of countries across the region, particularly those related to the security and stability of Gulf Arab states and the Levant, with the objective of strengthening collective security and promoting long-term regional stability.
The meeting also focused on the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
Reaffirming that the Palestinian issue remains central to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East, the ministers reiterated their support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and endorsed the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions
