UNIPA News(01 JULY) London-A patient admitted to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with suspected Ebola has tested negative for the virus, according to reports confirmed by public health officials.
The patient was taken to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday for assessment after concerns they may have contracted Ebola. Following laboratory testing, the result was negative.
A spokesperson for Public Health Scotland said there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Scotland.
The agency said it continues to work closely with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to monitor potential routes by which travellers from affected countries may enter the UK. Officials said the risk of Ebola reaching the UK through international travel remains low.
Public Health Scotland added that NHS boards across Scotland have established protocols for assessing and testing travellers arriving from Ebola-affected regions when necessary. Where appropriate, contact tracing, clinical assessment and precautionary testing may also be undertaken.
Health authorities stressed that the NHS has procedures in place to detect and safely manage suspected Ebola cases, helping to minimise any potential public health risk.
