UNIPA News(Haiti)
Location: Strait of Hormuz, near Oman
A Thai cargo vessel, Mayuree Naree, registered in Bangkok, was attacked today while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic maritime passages. The attack resulted in a fire and explosion in the engine area, producing thick black smoke visible from surrounding waters.
The ship, operated by Precious Shipping PCL, was en route from Khalifa Port, UAE to Kandla, India when it came under fire from unknown projectiles. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM local time, approximately 11 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.
Crew Status:
Total crew on board: 23
Rescued: 20 crew members were evacuated by the Royal Oman Navy to safety in Khasab, Oman.
Missing: 3 crew members remain on board, possibly trapped in the engine room. Search and rescue operations are ongoing
The attack highlights rising tensions in the Gulf region and underscores the vulnerability of commercial shipping lanes. The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant portion of global oil shipments, and incidents like this may have implications for international trade and maritime security.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the attack and assessing the potential risk to other vessels in the area. The Royal Thai Navy has confirmed the attack and is coordinating with regional partners to ensure the safety of shipping operations.
