UNIPA News| London 16 July-Television presenter Claudia Winkleman has confirmed that her self-titled BBC chat show will not return for a second series, saying she decided to step away after concluding that the format was not the right fit for her.

The programme, produced by the same company behind The Graham Norton Show, occupied the Friday night time slot previously associated with the Irish comedian’s programme and aired for seven weeks during March and April.

Although the series attracted respectable viewing figures, it received a mixed response from critics and audiences, with some questioning whether Winkleman’s presenting style was suited to a traditional celebrity chat show format.

Announcing her decision, Winkleman thanked the BBC, her guests and the production team for their support throughout the series.

She said she appreciated the opportunity to host the programme but realised she was “too nervous to enjoy it,” adding that while she may consider returning to the format in the future, she is currently content with her existing television roles.

BBC Director of Entertainment Ed Havard praised Winkleman’s performance, describing her warmth and quick wit as key strengths that made the programme enjoyable. He said the broadcaster respected her decision and thanked both Winkleman and the production team for bringing the series to television.

The BBC confirmed that Winkleman will continue in her other high-profile roles and is expected to return later this year as host of The Celebrity Traitors, one of the broadcaster’s flagship entertainment programmes.
