A tragic shooting incident at Mexico’s renowned Teotihuacan pyramids—one of the country’s most popular tourist and archaeological destinations—has left a Canadian woman dead and six others injured, authorities confirmed.
According to Mexico’s security cabinet, the attacker opened fire on visitors at the historic site, located just outside Mexico City, before taking his own life. Emergency services quickly responded, and the injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
Local officials reported that those wounded include tourists from Colombia, Russia, and Canada, highlighting the international impact of the attack at the globally visited heritage site.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the घटना, stating that a full investigation is underway. She also confirmed that she is in contact with the Canadian embassy regarding the matter.
“What happened today in Teotihuacan deeply pains us. I express my most sincere solidarity with the affected individuals and their families,” the president wrote on social media.
Canada’s foreign ministry has not yet issued an official response.
Teotihuacan, a pre-Hispanic city, stands as one of the most significant cultural centers in Mesoamerica and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The shocking violence has raised concerns about safety at major tourist landmarks in the region.
