UNIPA News(Haiti)-United Nations Warns of an Economy Under Pressure
The signs of a new global economic crisis are becoming increasingly visible. Rising oil prices, soaring food costs, slowing trade, and growing threats to employment are raising concerns among international institutions about a period of major economic turbulence worldwide.
In reports published Tuesday, two agencies of the United Nations warned that ongoing geopolitical tensions continue to weaken the global economy and could have serious consequences for millions of people.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development projects global economic growth of only 2.6% in 2026, compared to 2.9% the previous year. This decline reflects an atmosphere of uncertainty driven by international conflicts, disruptions in energy markets, and persistent supply chain difficulties.
According to experts, the situation could deepen social inequalities and poverty, particularly in vulnerable countries. Low-income households are already feeling the impact of inflation through higher prices for essential goods and reduced purchasing power.
The consequences could be especially severe for fragile nations such as Haiti, where economic and social challenges remain significant. A decline in international investment and slower global trade may further complicate efforts toward development and stability.
In response to these growing concerns, UN agencies are calling for stronger international cooperation to protect the most exposed economies, support vulnerable populations, and prevent a worsening global social crisis.
As the international economy enters a new phase of uncertainty, many analysts believe that solidarity among nations will be essential to preserve stability and promote a more sustainable future.
