UNIPA News(Tehran) 20 JUNE-Iran’s central military command announced on Saturday that it has ordered the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessel traffic, according to a statement broadcast by Iranian state television.
The announcement came amid heightened regional tensions following recent Israeli military strikes in southern Lebanon, which Iranian officials described as a violation of an agreement between Tehran and Washington.
In its statement, the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters said the closure was an initial response to what it called the “enemy’s breach of promise.”
“It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic,” the military command said.
The statement linked the decision directly to the broader geopolitical situation and warned of additional measures if hostilities continue.
“It is noted that this first step is a response to the enemy’s breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to force the enemy to comply with its obligations,” the statement added.
Iranian authorities did not immediately provide details on the scope, duration, or enforcement mechanisms of the announced closure.
There was no immediate response from Israeli or U.S. officials regarding Iran’s claims or the reported closure order.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime corridors, serving as a key route for global energy shipments. Any disruption to navigation through the waterway could have far-reaching implications for international trade and energy markets.
The claims made in the Iranian statement could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
