UNIPA NEWS|| Mexico City 01 July-A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off Mexico’s western coast on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), with no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
The USGS said the earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 75 kilometers south-southwest of El Progreso at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Authorities said there were no immediate indications of injuries or major structural damage following the tremor.
The agency continues to monitor the area for possible aftershocks as assessments of the affected region continue.
Mexico is one of the world’s most seismically active countries due to its location along the boundary of several tectonic plates, particularly where the Cocos Plate interacts with the North American Plate. Earthquakes are common along the country’s Pacific coastline.
Further updates are expected as authorities continue to evaluate the impact of the earthquake.
