UNIPA News| Gaza|14 July– The European Union has officially launched the “Team Gaza Initiative,” mobilizing €883.6 million (approximately $1 billion) to support early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

The initiative was announced on Monday ahead of the second ministerial meeting of the Palestine Donor Group in Brussels. The meeting was hosted by the European Commission and co-chaired by European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa.

Representatives from 65 delegations, including EU member states, partner countries, international organizations, and financial institutions, attended the meeting to coordinate assistance for Gaza’s recovery and review progress on reforms undertaken by the Palestinian Authority.

According to the European Commission, the initiative brings together financial contributions from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, and several governments, including Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, and Belgium. Australia and Canada have also expressed interest in joining the initiative.

The funding is intended to support projects aligned with the Gaza Peace Plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. Planned investments will focus on restoring essential civilian services, including water and sanitation infrastructure, debris and solid waste removal, healthcare services, energy systems, agriculture, and food security.

The European Commission also announced new financial commitments through the PEGASE mechanism, which provides assistance to the Palestinian Authority under established transparency and oversight standards.

As part of the initiative, the EU and several European countries signed new PEGASE contribution agreements worth €41.7 million. The participating contributors include Spain, Denmark, Cyprus, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and Belgium.

The new commitments are in addition to the European Commission’s previously announced €310 million allocation through the PEGASE mechanism for the 2026–2027 period.
