ODESA, July 15 — One person was killed and three others were injured after two merchant vessels traveling through the Black Sea maritime corridor under the flags of Tanzania and Liberia came under attack, according to Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper.
Kiper said the attack targeted civilian vessels operating along the Black Sea shipping corridor. The captain of one of the vessels was killed, while the remaining 11 crew members were safely evacuated to shore. Three members of the crew sustained injuries.
The regional official did not disclose the nationalities of the deceased or the injured, nor did he provide details on the severity of their injuries.
In a statement published on Telegram, Kiper accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian shipping and described the strike as “a war crime against peaceful people, civilian shipping, and global food security.”
The reported attack comes amid continued security concerns in the Black Sea, where commercial shipping remains vulnerable despite the operation of designated maritime corridors.
