UNIPA News(TEHRAN) March 1,2026: Iranian state media has reported the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering nationwide mourning and an official seven-day public holiday across the country. Authorities have also announced a 40-day period of national mourning in his honor.
Shortly after the announcement, a message was published from his official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The post featured a memorable photograph of the late leader along with the caption: “In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”
The message further referenced Verse 23 of Surah Al-Ahzab from the Holy Qur’an, which states:
“Among the believers are those who have fulfilled their covenant with Allah; some of them have fulfilled their vow, and some are still waiting, but they have not changed in the least.”
According to Iranian state media reports, members of his immediate family — including his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson — were also martyred in the reported attack. However, further independent verification regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident has not yet been made publicly available.
Government institutions, religious centers, and public offices across Iran have begun preparations for memorial gatherings and nationwide commemorative events. Large crowds are expected to participate in funeral prayers and tribute ceremonies in the coming days.
The reported martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei marks a significant moment in Iran’s political and religious landscape. Analysts suggest that the development could have profound implications for regional stability and the country’s leadership structure in the coming weeks.
