UNIPA News(Nigeria) 28 March-The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reassured Nigerians of the commission’s commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, the INEC boss emphasized that the commission has already begun early preparations aimed at improving electoral integrity, logistics, and voter experience across the country. He noted that lessons learned from previous elections are being carefully reviewed to strengthen the system and eliminate lapses.
According to him, “INEC remains fully committed to conducting elections that reflect the true will of the Nigerian people. We are deploying technology, enhancing security collaboration, and ensuring that every valid vote counts.”
However, the chairman expressed concern over the growing trend of voter apathy, describing it as a major threat to democracy. He urged citizens, especially young people, to actively participate in the electoral process by registering, collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and turning out to vote on election day.
“Democracy thrives on participation. When citizens fail to vote, they indirectly weaken the system. We must all take responsibility for the future of our country,” he added.
INEC also called on political parties, civil society organizations, and security agencies to play their roles responsibly in ensuring peaceful campaigns and elections.
As the 2027 polls approach, Nigerians are being encouraged to remain law-abiding, stay informed, and contribute to building a credible electoral process that reflects the nation’s democratic aspirations.
