BANGKOK, July 12(UNIPA News) — At least 27 people were killed and nearly 20 others were injured after a devastating fire swept through a pub in Bangkok early Monday, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

According to Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, emergency services received reports of the fire at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s densely populated Chatuchak district at approximately 12:02 a.m. local time.

Officials said the fire spread rapidly and was burning intensely when firefighters and rescue teams from multiple agencies arrived at the scene. Emergency responders worked to extinguish the flames while rescuing injured patrons and those trapped inside the building.

The fire was brought under control by approximately 12:32 a.m., authorities said.

Videos circulating online appeared to show people screaming and fleeing the venue moments before flames erupted from the entrance of the establishment.

Authorities confirmed that at least 27 people lost their lives in the incident, while nearly 20 others sustained injuries and were transported for medical treatment.

An official investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet announced the origin of the blaze or whether any safety violations may have contributed to the incident.

Emergency officials continue to assess the scene as investigators gather evidence and work to identify the victims.
