UNIPA News (Padang). April 24, 2026. A rare and spectacular phenomenon has occurred in Agam, Bukittinggi: a foul odor and the blooming of a rare, 2.5-meter-tall corpse flower.
On April 22, 2026, a Corpse flower measuring 70 cm wide was discovered in a resident’s garden in Jorong Sitingkai, Nagari Koto Rantang, Palupuh District, Agam Regency at 6 pm.
One of the tour guides in the area named Yulfiendri said the flower grew in a garden area planted with cinnamon and bananas.
The flower eats all insects that fly around it such as beetles, honey bees, ants, grasshoppers, and dragonflies. This attracts the attention of visitors and tourists from outside the region and abroad.
They were all genuinely curious to see this rarest phenomenon in West Sumatra firsthand. They took photos near the corpse flower.
Let’s witness this rare phenomenon with our family in an orderly manner and without damaging the garden and these rare flowers.
