UNIPA News(Havana) 18 march-Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has strongly criticized what he described as escalating efforts by the United States to undermine Cuba’s constitutional order, warning against any attempt at external intervention or use of force.
In a statement shared on social media Tuesday, Díaz-Canel accused Washington of pursuing “imperial ambitions,” alleging that the US aims to gain control over Cuba’s resources, economy, and national assets.
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump signaled that action regarding Cuba could be imminent, stating that the country is currently “in very bad shape” and hinting at forthcoming measures.
According to analysts and officials familiar with the situation, the Trump administration has intensified pressure on Havana by restricting critical oil supplies—particularly those previously sourced from Venezuela—worsening Cuba’s already fragile economic condition.
Díaz-Canel accused Washington of deliberately engineering an economic crisis, describing it as a strategy designed to cripple essential sectors such as healthcare and transportation. He said prolonged fuel shortages have left the country struggling to maintain basic services, with no crude oil supplies for months.
The situation has been further aggravated by widespread power outages, including a recent nationwide blackout linked to the ongoing energy crisis. Cuban authorities reported gradual restoration of electricity in some regions, including Pinar del Río and Holguín, as limited systems resumed operations.
The Cuban leader described the US embargo and related measures as a violation of international law, arguing that they amount to “collective punishment” intended to force the Cuban population into submission through economic hardship.
He further stated that Washington is attempting to exploit the very weaknesses created by decades of sanctions, using them as justification for increased pressure.
Despite the mounting challenges, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed Cuba’s stance, declaring that the nation would resist any external aggression. He emphasized that the country remains determined to defend its sovereignty, warning that any attempt to impose change from outside would be met with firm resistance.
