UNIPA News(London) 01 July-Emergency services are investigating after a light aircraft crashed into a field near Mill Lane in Ongar, Essex, on Tuesday afternoon.

Essex Police said the aircraft came down at around 12:30pm, prompting a large emergency response. Officers remain at the scene alongside investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), which has classified the incident as an aviation accident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone was injured or killed in the crash. Police said updates on the condition of those on board will be provided once more information becomes available.

Images circulating on social media showed the wreckage of a white aircraft in a field, although officials have not verified the photographs.

Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of Essex Police described the incident as serious and said emergency services were working together to secure the area.

“This is a serious incident, and we understand it will cause concern in the local community,” Cronin said. “We are working closely with emergency service partners to respond and ensure the area is safe. There will be a visible police presence as we deal with this incident.”

Police have urged residents and motorists to avoid Mill Lane while emergency crews continue their work.

A local resident said a police vehicle had blocked access to the road and that officers were not yet providing details about the incident. The resident added that the aircraft appeared to have crashed in open ground rather than into nearby homes.

St Mary’s Church in Ongar also responded to the incident, asking the local community to pray for those involved, emergency responders and residents affected by the crash.

The cause of the accident has not yet been established. Investigations by the AAIB and Essex Police are continuing.
