UNIPA News DESK|| June 27-Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams has revealed that her boyfriend, Irish actor Paul Mescal, co-wrote a song on her upcoming third studio album, Daughter From Hell.
Speaking on The New York Times podcast Popcast, the 26-year-old said the pair collaborated on the track Imaginary Friend, describing the experience as enjoyable rather than a significant milestone in their relationship.
“It was so fun to write together,” Abrams said, adding that collaborating creatively felt natural within their circle of friends, where sharing artistic ideas is common.
While acknowledging that the collaboration may attract public attention, Abrams said she values both openness and privacy in her personal life.
“I don’t like the feeling of hiding. I also love privacy where it feels like the right thing,” she said, adding that the positive experience of creating music together outweighs any potential online criticism.
Abrams also addressed being labelled a “nepo baby”, saying she understands the criticism and recognizes the advantages she had growing up as the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and producer Katie McGrath.
She said having financial security and a creative family environment gave her the opportunity to focus on music without the pressures many aspiring artists face.
Reflecting on online culture, Abrams said she is concerned by the level of hostility on social media but feels supported by audiences at her live performances and by those close to her.
Daughter From Hell is scheduled for release in July and follows Abrams’ 2024 chart-topping album The Story Of Us.
