UNIPA News | Tehran 16 July –Iran’s top military leadership has warned that any United States attack targeting Iranian power plants or bridges would trigger a broad retaliatory campaign against critical infrastructure across West Asia, as military tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
The warning came after President Donald Trump said the United States could expand its military operations against Iran next week unless Tehran agrees to enter negotiations.
The exchange followed another day of hostilities in which Iran launched fresh attacks on US military bases in Gulf states, while the United States carried out overnight strikes on multiple targets inside Iran.
Iranian authorities said their latest operations targeted US military sites in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, extending the conflict into a sixth consecutive day despite a preliminary agreement intended to halt the fighting.
The US military said its forces conducted a six-hour series of strikes at multiple locations aimed at reducing Iran’s capability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
Amid the escalating conflict, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation and urged all parties to take immediate steps toward de-escalation.
Guterres called for a return to dialogue and diplomacy while reiterating the importance of fully restoring navigational rights in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global oil and natural gas shipments.
The International Maritime Organization also appealed to all sides to exercise maximum restraint, emphasizing the need to protect seafarers and preserve freedom of navigation in the region.
The latest developments underscore growing concerns that continued military exchanges between Iran and the United States could further destabilize regional security and disrupt international energy and shipping routes.
