Iranian hackers have leaked hundreds of emails and archival images attributed to FBI Director Kash Patel, including photographs taken in Havana’s most famous landmarks.
While United States authorities have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the material, the leak has already sparked significant interest. The images, released by the hacking group “Handala,” reportedly show Patel at La Bodeguita del Medio, El Floridita, and other tourist sites in Havana, smoking Habanos cigars and posing next to the statue of Ernest Hemingway.
This leak is believed to be a retaliation for recent actions taken by the FBI and the Department of Justice against web domains used in Iranian cyber operations.
The leaked files include personal and family emails, mostly dating from 2010 to 2012, alongside more recent documents such as a flight receipt. Cybersecurity experts note that Iran often harvests information over many years to use as political leverage. These specific photos in Cuba add a layer of sensitivity due to the long-standing historical tensions between Washington and the Havana government.
The case is still developing, and it remains unclear whether these revelations will lead to political or legal consequences for Patel.
