UNIPA News Desk|| 28 June- Two Palestinian siblings, including a 15-year-old girl, were killed and at least seven other people were injured in an Israeli drone strike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza on Saturday, according to Nasser Hospital.
The strike targeted tents sheltering displaced families in the Muwasi area, killing 15-year-old Islam Moussa and her 30-year-old brother, Abdullah Moussa. The casualties were transported to Nasser Hospital, where relatives gathered to mourn the victims.
The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out a strike in the Muwasi area, stating that it had targeted a Hamas militant. However, it did not provide evidence to support the claim.
In a separate incident, an Israeli strike hit a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in western Gaza City, wounding at least 12 people, according to Shifa Hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said two of the injured were in critical condition and that most of those wounded were women.
Palestinians also reported hearing a loud explosion in Gaza City on Saturday. Later in the evening, additional strikes were reported in central Gaza, although there was no immediate information regarding casualties. The Israeli military said it was reviewing the reports.
Despite a ceasefire reached in October that significantly reduced large-scale fighting between Israel and Hamas, Israeli forces have continued conducting near-daily airstrikes and shelling across Gaza.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 1,030 people have been killed in the territory since the ceasefire took effect. The ministry, which operates under the Hamas-led government, says it maintains detailed casualty records but does not distinguish between civilian and militant deaths.
The ministry also said last week that more than 250 children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Gaza’s Health Ministry says Israel’s subsequent military campaign has killed more than 73,050 Palestinians, including those killed since the ceasefire.
