UNIPA News(Seoul) 27 May 2026:North Korea has announced the successful testing of a new lightweight multi-purpose missile launch system and a tactical cruise missile weapon system, further signaling the country’s continued efforts to strengthen its military capabilities.

According to North Korean state media, the military exercises were carried out on Tuesday under the direct supervision of leader Kim Jong Un.

South Korea’s military reported that several projectiles were launched from North Korea’s west coast, including at least one ballistic missile. The missiles reportedly traveled around 80 kilometers before landing.

North Korean authorities stated that the tests were aimed at evaluating the performance of special mission warheads and verifying the effectiveness of advanced artillery rocket systems equipped with ultra-precise autonomous navigation technology.

Following the launch, Kim Jong Un described the new weapons systems as a major advancement in the country’s military modernization program. He emphasized the importance of developing highly destructive strike capabilities capable of neutralizing enemy forces in potential combat situations.

Images released by North Korean media showed missiles being fired from mobile launch platforms, producing large flames and heavy smoke. Additional photographs showed Kim inspecting the launch systems alongside senior military officials.

Security analysts believe Pyongyang is attempting to strengthen its strategic position through a series of missile tests conducted this year. Experts say the newly tested system combines tactical cruise missiles, guided rocket technology, and ballistic missile capabilities designed for rapid and precise attacks.

Despite multiple international sanctions restricting its missile and nuclear weapons programs, North Korea continues to expand its military technology. Observers warn that the latest missile tests could further increase tensions on the Korean Peninsula and raise regional security concerns.
