UNIPA NEWS/SANTA CRUZ DE BARAHONA, Dominican Republic (March 15, 2026). Faith plays a fundamental role in the lives of Dominicans, with religion serving as a key driver for transmitting ethical principles and supporting vulnerable groups throughout the country, from young people to the elderly and children.

With deep Christian roots, reflected in its name—”Land of God”—and its national principles of “God, Fatherland, and Liberty,” the Dominican Republic has over 60% Catholics and 20% Protestants. The flag and the Constitution recognize the importance of faith in national identity, with elements such as an open Bible and a cross in its national symbol.

Religious institutions promote values such as respect, solidarity, and love of neighbor through the word of God, influencing daily life and the formation of new generations, especially in Catholic schools. Furthermore, organizations like Caritas Dominicana, Alimentos para los Hambrientos (Food for the Hungry), and the Coalition for Interreligious Dialogue carry out humanitarian aid, health services, education, and community development work throughout the country, reaching impoverished populations regardless of their beliefs.

While debates exist regarding the relationship between Church and State, faith remains a central element in the social fabric and well-being of thousands of Dominicans.
