UNIPA News(Havana)-The United States government will allow a Russian oil tanker carrying more than 700,000 barrels of petroleum to enter Cuba. The U.S. will permit the arrival of the Russian supertanker Anatoly Kolodkin, which is loaded with approximately 730,000 to 750,000 barrels of crude oil.
The report further notes that it remains unclear why the administration authorized the shipment despite current sanctions. The vessel is currently in Cuban waters, heading toward the port of Matanzas, where it is expected to arrive on Tuesday, March 31. This comes amid the worst energy crisis the island has faced in years.
This decision suggests a shift in pressure from Washington, which had previously prohibited Russian oil shipments to Cuba and had maintained close surveillance on this specific vessel in the Caribbean.
This cargo would mark the first large-scale shipment in recent months following the disruption of supplies from Venezuela and Mexico.
