UNIPA News(Haiti)18 March-,a high-level meeting was recently organized in the border zone between Haiti and Dominican Republic. The discussions brought together several Haitian and Dominican authorities, aiming to address growing security concerns and regional cooperation.
Sources indicate that these strategic exchanges allowed officials, including Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, to gather key information now being publicly shared. The Dominican Republic appears to be increasingly involved in Haiti’s security situation, closely monitoring developments and reinforcing its diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, a major shift is underway in the international security mission in Haiti. A total of 215 Kenyan police officers, who had been deployed under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, are set to begin their gradual withdrawal starting this Tuesday, returning to Nairobi.
According to official statements, this withdrawal is part of a broader transition plan. The Kenya-led presence will be progressively replaced by a new international force, including troops from Chad, tasked with intensifying operations against armed gangs destabilizing the country.
The Dominican government has also confirmed that the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF) is expected to be fully deployed in Haiti by October 2026. This transition period will allow new contingents to arrive, adapt to the terrain, and ensure continuity in security operations.
Initial elements of the new force are expected to begin arriving as early as April 1, 2026, marking a critical phase in Haiti’s ongoing struggle to restore order and stability.
Observers note that while international support remains essential, long-term success will depend on coordinated regional efforts and strong internal reforms.
