UNIPA News(Islamabad) 20 June- At least seven people were killed and three others injured in two roadside bomb explosions in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, according to local authorities.

The attacks occurred in Bannu district, which borders Afghanistan. Police said the first explosion targeted a private pick-up truck carrying passengers, killing five people. A second blast struck as rescuers were transporting injured victims to hospital, leaving two more people dead and three wounded.

Senior police official Yasir Afridi said both improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were remotely controlled. Security forces have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombings. However, authorities are likely to focus their investigation on militant groups that have carried out similar attacks in the region in the past.

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He also wished a swift recovery for those injured in the explosions.

The incident comes amid continued security challenges in Pakistan’s northwestern regions, where militant violence has remained a persistent concern. Bannu and surrounding districts have witnessed repeated attacks targeting civilians and security personnel in recent years.

Authorities said investigations into the bombings are ongoing, while security measures have been heightened in the affected area.
