UNIPA News(LONDON) June 25 — Southern England has recorded its highest June temperature on record, according to the UK Met Office, as an intense heatwave continues to affect large parts of the country.

The Met Office said temperatures in southern regions significantly exceeded seasonal averages, surpassing previous June records and making the current heatwave one of the most severe ever observed during the month since records began.

Weather officials warned that unusually hot conditions are expected to persist over the coming days, with southern England remaining the area most affected. Several locations recorded temperatures unprecedented for this time of year as prolonged sunshine, limited rainfall and stable atmospheric conditions combined to intensify the heat.

Authorities have issued public health advisories, urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, including dehydration and heat stress. Particular attention has been directed toward vulnerable groups, including older adults, children and individuals with underlying health conditions.

Emergency services and local authorities have also warned of an elevated wildfire risk in grasslands and forested areas as dry conditions continue across parts of the country.

The latest heatwave has renewed attention on the impact of climate change on weather patterns across Europe. Climate researchers and scientific institutions in the United Kingdom are continuing to monitor temperature trends and assess the relationship between increasingly frequent extreme heat events and long-term climate change.

The Met Office said further updates will be issued as the heatwave develops and temperatures remain above seasonal norms across much of southern England.
