UNIPA News,WASHINGTON D.C 18 June-U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and manufacture chips in the United States, reviving his long-standing push to expand domestic technology production. The announcement was made through a post on Truth Social, where Trump stated that the two companies would collaborate on chip development and production in America.

However, neither Apple nor Intel has publicly confirmed the President’s statement. Trump’s post also did not specify which types of chips would be produced under the reported partnership or provide a timeline for when such chips might enter commercial use.

The announcement comes as Apple continues efforts to diversify its global supply chain. While the company has shifted a portion of iPhone manufacturing from China to India, its most advanced A-series processors remain exclusively manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which has produced Apple’s iPhone chips since 2016.

Industry observers note that Apple has long expressed concerns about potential geopolitical risks surrounding Taiwan, particularly the possibility of a Chinese military action that could disrupt semiconductor supplies. Such concerns have increased interest in expanding advanced chip production capacity outside Taiwan.

TSMC currently operates semiconductor facilities in Arizona, where it manufactures 4nm and 5nm chips. The company plans to begin volume production of 3nm chips in the United States in the coming years, although its most advanced manufacturing technologies remain concentrated in Taiwan.

Apple and Intel have a history of collaboration. Intel supplied processors for Mac computers from 2006 until Apple completed its transition to in-house Apple Silicon chips. Intel also provided modem chips for several generations of iPhones before Apple acquired Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019 for approximately $1 billion.

Market reaction to Trump’s announcement was immediate. Intel shares surged more than 10 percent during Thursday trading, reaching a new 52-week high as investors responded to the prospect of a potential partnership with Apple.

Despite the market response, questions remain about the scope, feasibility and timing of any Apple-Intel collaboration. Until official statements are issued by both companies, the reported agreement remains unverified.
