UNIPA News|| Doha 29 June-US President Donald Trump said Iran had requested a meeting in Doha scheduled for Tuesday, a claim swiftly rejected by senior Iranian negotiator Kazem Gharibabadi, adding uncertainty to ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator, said negotiations are expected to resume on Tuesday. The Trump administration also indicated that technical-level discussions involving lower-ranking diplomats are scheduled to continue in the coming days.

The diplomatic exchanges come amid a fragile interim agreement reached earlier this month. Under the deal, Iran agreed to dilute its enriched uranium stockpile in return for sanctions waivers, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a 60-day framework to negotiate a broader agreement.

Despite the interim accord, tensions remain high in the Gulf. Recent hostilities have disrupted maritime security, with reported attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz prompting US retaliatory airstrikes. The conflict has also expanded with reported Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait, as well as a strike on a tanker carrying Qatari crude oil.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said efforts were underway to release $6 billion of Iranian assets held in Qatar, describing the interim agreement as a major achievement. However, US officials said no frozen Iranian funds had been released, while Qatari authorities have not confirmed any transfer.

Global oil markets continue to monitor developments closely. US crude futures traded at around $69 per barrel on Monday, while Brent crude stood at approximately $73.25 per barrel as investors assessed the impact of the ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic negotiations.
