Amid rising hopes for stability in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has announced that a major agreement with Iran is “largely negotiated,” with discussions now focused on final details before an official declaration.

Speaking after a series of high-level diplomatic calls with regional leaders and Israeli officials, Trump described the proposed arrangement as a “Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to Peace.” According to him, negotiations involving the United States, Iran, and several Middle Eastern nations have entered their final phase, and a formal announcement could come soon.

Trump confirmed that he had spoken separately with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and Israel. Discussions reportedly centered on ending regional hostilities, restoring maritime security, and preventing further escalation in the Gulf region.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei also acknowledged progress in negotiations, stating that both sides are working toward an agreement that could eventually pave the way for broader talks lasting between 30 and 60 days. Those future negotiations are expected to address sensitive matters such as Iran’s nuclear activities and uranium-related issues.

Baghaei noted that the immediate focus remains ending the ongoing conflict and reducing military tensions across the region, including in Lebanon. He emphasized that discussions on nuclear matters are not yet part of the current phase of negotiations.

The proposed agreement is expected to include several major developments, including an official declaration ending hostilities, the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the US-led blockade on Iranian ports. The reopening of the waterway would be a significant step for global trade, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.

Diplomatic sources involved in Pakistan-led mediation efforts said the two sides have made considerable progress, although unresolved last-minute disputes could still threaten the negotiations. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that “some progress” had been achieved and suggested that further developments may emerge shortly.

Despite the diplomatic momentum, both Washington and Tehran have continued to reaffirm their core positions. The United States maintains that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons and insists on strict oversight of highly enriched uranium. Iran, meanwhile, continues to demand an end to military pressure and economic restrictions.

The current conflict traces back to late February, when coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel targeted Iranian positions amid growing concerns over Tehran’s nuclear programme. Iran later responded by effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting international oil and gas shipments and increasing economic uncertainty worldwide.

Although a fragile ceasefire currently exists, observers warn that the situation remains delicate. Regional and global powers are now closely watching whether the emerging agreement can transform months of confrontation into a lasting diplomatic breakthrough.
