Washington, March 18(UNIPA News) — The United States military confirmed on Tuesday evening that it conducted targeted strikes on Iranian anti-ship missile facilities located along the coast near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement released by US Central Command on X, American forces deployed multiple 5,000-pound bunker-buster munitions in the operation. The strikes were aimed at heavily fortified missile positions believed to be capable of threatening maritime security in the region.

CENTCOM stated that the targeted Iranian anti-ship cruise missile systems posed a direct risk to international shipping routes passing through the strait — a critical global trade corridor that handles roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply.

Reports indicate that each 5,000-pound bunker-buster bomb carries an estimated cost of around $288,000. However, these munitions are significantly less powerful compared to the larger 30,000-pound bombs previously used by the US in operations targeting Iranian nuclear-related sites.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most vital waterways for global energy transportation. Any disruption in this region is widely viewed as a serious threat to international energy markets and could also have wider implications for global food security.

The strikes come at a time of rising tensions in the Gulf region, with ongoing disruptions affecting oil shipments and maritime stability.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has recently urged several nations to deploy naval forces to help safeguard energy supply routes passing through the strait, signaling growing international concern over security in the area.
